Lake Fannin Outing
March 27 @ 7:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join club members at Lake Fannin for a morning of fishing.
Lake Fannin is a beautiful little lake north of Bonham that is full of bass, Bluegill, and their assorted cousins. The lake does not allow motors and it is perfect for kayaks and other self-propelled water craft. However, there is no bank fishing access, you will need a kayak, pontoon, or some of other type of boat to fish this lake. I usually use a 5 wt or even a 3 wt to fish this lake. Sunrise is about 7:00 am and the plan is to show up when you want to get there and then most of us will probably fish until about noon or so before going to find some place for lunch.
Location: OK, finding Lake Fannin is not difficult, but it is easy to miss a turn or two. From Bonham, Texas, go north on 78 and then turn right on 273 toward Lake Bonham. You will drive over Lake Bonham and continue on 273 past Ivanhoe, TX. Once you are past Ivanhoe, watch for 2200 on the right side of the road and then start watching to your left for “State Park Road 34”. Turn left onto Park Rd 34 and then take the first right toward Lake Fannin. At the “Y” in this road go left onto what will become a dirt road. This road goes onto the peninsula of the lake and there is a place to park and launch at the end of the road. Please note that cell phone coverage is hit or miss once inside the grasslands area. Lake Fannin is located less than a mile from the Red River, so, it is located about as far north as you can go in Texas, but it is a pretty place to fish.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Community Fishing Lake regulations apply to Lake Fannin.
